ECBA heed Pope's call, to train bible apostles
10 April 2006 - Following the Pope's affirmation of the urgent need for a new generation of apostles, the Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (ECBA) is set to teach young ministers who will spread the Gospel to their fellow youth.
On April 24-28, 2006 at the Bukal ng Tipan, Taytay, Rizal, the ECBA will gather ministers from both the Biblical apostolate and youth ministry nationwide for the National Youth Bible Camp II— Minister's Edition.
In collaboration with the Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) and Bukal ng Tipan, the event, being a sequel, is open only to those who have undergone the first bible camp held on March 2002.
According to ECBA, the camp seeks to be a venue for the participants to learn simple and practical methods of Bible study, introduce them to some Gospel-sharing methods and acquire skills in preparing Bible-based formation programs and modules, especially for young people.
Pope Benedict XVI in his World Youth Day message urged young people to "build (their lives) on Christ, to accept the word with joy and put its teachings into practice."
He urged the youth to read the bible, learn to study and meditate on the Word of Christ in the Scriptures and learn how to talk with God in prayer.
"I urge you to become familiar with the Bible, and to have it at hand so that it can be your compass pointing out the road to follow," he said. "By reading it, you will learn to know Christ."
"To build your life on Christ, to accept the word with joy and put its teachings into practice: this, young people of the third millennium, should be your programme," he added.
He asked the youth to love the word of God and the Church, "and this will give you access to a treasure of very great value and will teach you how to appreciate its richness."
Earlier, CBCP President Angel N. Lagdameo stated the importance of youth formation who will become carriers of moral values "in our complex crisis-ridden globalized society."
He called on the Filipino youth to lead credible and righteous lives so they could lead the country to better future.
He said that credibility "is the challenge we give to our new generation of leaders which our country today urgently needs."
