CLSP 14th National Convention Kicks off Today
24 April 2006 -- The Canon Law Society of the Philippines (CLSP) officially opened its 14th Annual National Convention today at the Montevista Resort in Pansol, Calamba City.
Hosted by the Diocese of San Pablo, this three-day event which will end up on April 27 focuses on the theme: "Current Issues on Institutes of Consecrated Life in the Church."
The assembly opened with an Inaugural Mass presided by Bishop Leo Drona of the Diocese of San Pablo.
Tomorrow, April 25, the convention's second day will open with a Eucharistic Celebration at the Los Baņos Conference Hall with CLSP member Bishop Nerio Odchimar as the main celebrant. On this day, three lectures (Charism and Foundation: Canonical Aspects of the Establishments of New Institutes; Canonical Aspects of the Relationship between Institutes of Consecrated Life and Particular Churches; Property and Propriety: Legal Questions encountered by Institutes of Consecrated Life) will also be conducted.
On the next day, April 26, the participants will be listening to two more topics (Redemptionis Sacramentum: Certain matters to be observed or avoided in the celebration of the Eucharist and Lex orandi, lex credendi: Canonical Highlights of the 2005 Synod of Bishops) that are scheduled in the morning.
A symposium on The Canonical Process for the Declaration of Marriage Nullity, meanwhile, will be held in the afternoon.
The event will conclude on April 27 with a concelebrated mass to be presided by Bishop Leonardo Medroso, chairman of the CBCP- Episcopal Commission on Canon Law.
Last year, the national convention was held in Palo, Leyte with around 90 participants who attended the occasion.
The CLSP is a non-stock and non-profit, national association in the Church, with a so called public juridical personality, established with the approval of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.
The association has been tasked to render pastoral service to the Christian faithful through Canon Law, to promote the on-going study of, and research in canonical science and allied sciences towards fostering the knowledge and practice of Canon Law and to facilitate the interchange of canonical findings and opinions, observations and proposals among the members and with other Canon Law Societies.
