MINDANAO CLERGY TO HOLD 1ST MEDIA SUMMIT
MATI, Davao Oriental (February 22, 2006) -- The clergy of the Archdiocese of Davao, Dioceses of Digos, Tagum, and Mati (DaDiTaMa) is holding a media summit in Mati, Davao Oriental on March 8-10, 2006.
The Media Summit, which will be joined in by lay persons involved in the media apostolate, will asses, evaluate, and proposed solutions to the perennial problems confronting the church media ministry.
Presently, DaDiTaMa has 2 radio stations, 2 newspapers (one daily, the other monthly) which are "struggling to survive". The Diocese of Mati owns and operates a Cable TV which reportedly subsidizes the AM radio station of the Diocese.
The theme of the summit "Has the Catholic Media failed?" will be posed as a proactive challenge to the participants composed of station managers, editors, diocesan media directors and the bishops themselves of the ecclesiastical region.
"I hope the efforts of the Daditama Media Directors will strengthen the media ministry in the region," said Fr. Dennis Alingalan, DCM, Station Manager of DXHM-AM of Mati.
Bishop Jimmy Afable of Digos is the prime mover of the Media Summit which is the first of its kind in this part of Mindanao.
