CBCP welcomes new Apostolic Nuncio
27 February 2006---On behalf of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo, President, has welcomed the appointment by Pope Benedict XVI of His Excellency Archbishop Fernando Filoni as Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
As the ambassador of the Holy Father, Filoni will "continue to bring our country to the apostolic attention and care of the Vicar of Christ, as it has been in the past."
Archbishop Filino was born in Manduria, Italy in 1946 and ordained priest in 1970.
Prior to his appointment, Archbishop Filoni, 59, had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan since January 2001.
