New Auxiliary Bishop named for Cotabato
3 February 2006—Pope Benedict XVI named recently Msgr. Jose Bagaforo as auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Cotabato, assigning him the titular see of Vazari-Didda (Vazaritanus Diddensis).
Bagaforo will be assisting Archbishop Orlando Quevedo, former President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), in the pastoral administration of the Archdiocese.
The 52-year-old Bagaforo has been serving the vicar-general of the Archdiocese of Cotabato and president of Notre Dame College in Tacurong City. Outside his ecclesiastical assignments, Bagaforo established a home for the aged that has been in operation for some years now.
At age 26, he was ordained as a priest at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, in Cotabato City, on March 1, 1980.
Bagaforo took up his Theology at the Saint Francis Regional Major Seminary and earned his master's degree in education management at Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City.
He also went on to study systematic theology at the Weston School of Theology, a National Jesuit School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. (Roy Q. Lagarde)
