2 New Bishops Appointed
16 January 2006---Pope Benedict XVI has appointed two new bishops--for the Diocese of Alaminos, Pangasinan and Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga.
Monsignor Mario Mendoza-Peralta, 56, who served as vicar general and later as diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Urdaneta, is named as the co-adjutor bishop of Alaminos.
As co-adjutor bishop, Peralta is given the right of succession when the current Alaminos Bishop Jesus Cabrera retires.
At the same time, the Pope appointed Monsignor Roberto Calasa-Mallari, as the auxiliary bishop of San Fernando under Archbishop Paciano Aniceto.
At the time of his appointment as bishop, he was the Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (ECFL) of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Mallari, 47, also served as spiritual director of the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary and parish priest of the Lord's Ascension Parish, both in Pampanga.
The announcement was made January 14. The dates of installation of both bishops will be announced later. (Roy Q. Lagarde)
