Bp. Alo celebrates 25 years as bishop
3 June 2006 - The silver anniversary is a milestone in matrimony and in holy orders. It is a moment both to look back with satisfaction, and to look ahead with anticipation. On June 7, Most Rev. Patricio H. Alo of Mati will celebrate his 25th year as bishop.
Rejoicing and in union with him in spreading the greatness of God, the faithful of the Diocese of Mati is now up in preparation for said event designed to entice the people to serve God more together with their bishop.
Coinciding with the Pentecost Sunday, the theme of the celebration is "seek ye first the kingdom of God" - one of his favorite verses in the Holy Scripture.
A Eucharistic celebration will highlight the event that will be held at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral at 3:00 pm.
After the Mass, a testimonial banquet and program will follow at the St. Therese and Auditorium, where a video documentary will showcase the evolution of Bp. Alo's religious life.
It will covered by DXHM, a catholic and the only AM station of Davao Oriental, and Trinity Cable Television, the sole cable network operating in Mati.
Said catholic stations, built in response to the challenge of then Pope John Paul II to make social communications the most effective "tool for evangelization, and social communication," put an end to Alo's quest for an effective way of evangelization.
Expected to grace the occasion are members of the bishop's family, friends, and colleagues from the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) who played a pivotal role in the bishop's public ministry.
Bishop Alo is 65 years old. Born in Cebu City, he was ordained a priest on March 14, 1964 and as bishop on June 7, 1981 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cebu.
He took his Licentiate in Philosophy at the UST Central Seminary. He has a Doctorate in Sacred Theology in Angelicum University, Rome.
In 1984, He was installed bishop in the Diocese of Mati. (Neela G. Duallo, DXHM-Mati)
