Thanksgiving mass for Cardinal Rosales
March 27 - His Eminence, Cardinal Gaudencio B. Rosales, archbishop of Manila, will celebrate a mass of thanksgiving for his elevation to the College of Cardinals on April 1, at 10:00 AM at the Manila Cathedral.
Rosales, who was officially installed as cardinal in a consistory in Rome last March 24, will be back in Manila on Thursday, March 30.
Rosales is also set to have an audience with the Holy Father today at the Pope Paul VI auditorium.
On March 25, along with 15 other new cardinals, Rosales received from Pope Benedict XVI the golden ring, a symbol of a cardinal's commitments and loyalty to the church, in a mass at the St. Peter's Basilica.
Rosales also celebrated a mass yesterday along with the Filipino migrants, priests and religious in Italy at Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
Before he left for Rome last March 17, Rosales said he felt undeserving and unworthy to be bestowed with such honor by the Pope.
He also thanked the people who have been praying for him. "I say to you that this added task or responsibility or work will not be honor but would mean greater service," he said. "So that many poor around us, so neglected by the powerful, may be attended to, recognized, loved and served."
A day after he arrived in Rome on March 18, Rosales went on retreat at the Little Sisters of Jesus convent in Tre Fontane until March 21.
Earlier, the country's Catholic Church leaders led by Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) welcomed the appointment of Rosales to the cardinalate.
"The CBCP gladly welcomes the news of Archbishop Rosales's elevation to the College of Cardinals. The CBCP likewise profoundly thanks His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for honoring one of its members, the Archbishop of Manila, with the dignity of a Cardinal," Lagdameo said.
He also said that while they are one with the Archdiocese of Manila in rejoicing, the bishops would also like to urge everyone to pray for Rosales.
