Give time for clergy, new bishop told
NAGA, July 1, 2007 - Pontifical Mission Society National Director Gilbert A. Garcera was ordained Bishop in fitting ceremonies by Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legazpi June 29, 2007 at the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in downtown Naga City.
During his homily, Archbisop Legazpi pointed out “that the most important property of the bishop is time.”
He admonished the new bishop to give quality time for his clergy and the flock.
The following day, Bishop Garcera was installed the third Bishop of the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte.
Garcera was born on February 2, 1959 in Naga City and was ordained to the priesthood on May 29,1983.
A graduate of Naga Parochial School and Bicol region’s Holy Rosary Minor and Major seminaries, the newly-appointed Bishop of Daet had graduate studies at the Ateneo de Manila University and the Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute at Antipolo City where he earned a doctorate degree.
His first assignment after ordination in 1983 was Assistant Parish Priest of Naga Metropolitan Cathedral.
Thereafter, he was appointed member of the Presbyteral Council of Caceres in 1985, Director of the Caceres Catechetical Ministry in 1988, Vice Rector of the Penafrancia Basilica Minore in 1991 and CBCP Assistant Secretary General and Assistant Treasurer in October 2001.
At the time of his appointment as bishop of Daet, Msgr. Garcera was the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies Philippines. (Melo Acuña)
