Manila bishops, priests to meet for Clergy Day

MANILA, July 29, 2009— The Archdiocese of Manila will hold its Clergy Day next week, bringing together bishops and priests from the metro area.

The gathering will be held on August 4, in time for feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the Patron of all priests.

Clergy Day is an annual celebration of the Archdiocese of Manila to develop greater understanding of the services in the pastoral community.

This year, the Manila clergy will gather at the St John Mary Vianney Galilee Development and Retreat Center for Priests in Tagaytay City.

Activities will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a Eucharistic celebration to be presided by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales.

In the afternoon, among the activities include a sharing by vicariates and ministries and a “brief reporting and sharing summary and challenges” by Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo.

The one-day event will be capped with an evening prayer by Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez.

In line with the celebration of the Year of Priests, the Manila Archdiocese is also organizing a Day of Recollection, Prayer and Fasting offered by the Lay People for the Sanctification of Priests and for Vocations to the Priesthood.

The event will be held on August 22, the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord (SM Megamall Chapel) in Mandaluyong City.
